Matthew 10.28 - Do not fear those who kill the body but can not kill the soul. Rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

The 10 chapters of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus speaks of 16 verses of the afflictions that come to his followers. He talks about them that people can take this life, but their power is limited. Jesus points out the difference which exists between "killing the body" and the final crash that will cause God.

The same thing is in Matthew 10.28, Luke says so.

Luke 12,4-5 - you, my friends, I say: Do not fear those who kill the body, and then they have nothing to do more. I'll show you whom you fear: Fear Him, which when killed, has power to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, That is fear.

We see here that Jesus makes a distinction between the death, which affects all men, and one final death for those who have not repented. People can only cause the faithful first death, but not the other!

The question of whether a person has an immortal soul, can only occur if the wrong word we understand the soul and gives him a sense not originally intended.

Body + Spirit = Soul (life)
